- With 26 years of a formidable career behind her, Dr Rita Dhamankar heads the Glaucoma department at LEI.
- She is an alumnus of the Grant Medical College, Mumbai and had topped the Master’s program at Mumbai University as well as Diploma in Ophthalmic Medicine & Surgery, winning Dr Dastoor’s Gold Medal during her graduation and post-graduation tenure there.

Biography
She has trained with Dr G. Chandrashekhar at the L. V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad & Dr Ravi Thomas at the Christian Medical College, Vellore as well as travelled to the USA on Rotary Scholarship for international exposure.
Dr Dhamankar did her fellowship training in Glaucoma under Dr Paul Palmberg at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami in 2004.
She is frequently invited as a speaker and contributor at key ophthalmic meets on glaucoma at national and international forums. She is also actively involved in various drug trials for glaucoma for national and multinational companies. In fact, Dr Dhamankar is one of the first ophthalmologists in India to start using the Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty.
She also heads the Laxmi College of Optometry.
