What is Lasik ?
LASIK is a time-tested surgical procedure to remove glasses painlessly and effectively. The actual procedure takes only a few minutes, is pain-free, and provides clear vision in a matter of days.
This procedure involves two steps – creating a flap in the cornea, and then using a highly sophisticated laser to shape the bed and thereby remove your spectacle number. We have excellent Lasik Treatment in Navi Mumbai
LASIK surgery is extremely safe. All patients we see undergo a thorough eye check-up from A to Z. While Lasik Treatment in Navi Mumbai at Laxmi Eye Hospital, we look for all possible eye variations which could contribute to spectacle power and any previously undiagnosed eye problems. Some of these tests include detailed evaluation of the true spectacle power by different methods, tests for dry eye, intraocular pressure measurement, pupil size measurement, and a detailed retinal check-up. Advanced Technologies at Laxmi Eye Institute
The iTrace – This unique machine works on the principle of ray tracing technology. Aberrations are imperfections in the optical quality of an eye. Some of these (‘lower order aberrations’) can be corrected with spectacles and some (‘higher order aberrations’) cannot. Similarly conventional LASIK laser can only correct the lower order aberrations. For eyes with significant higher order aberrations, we offer Wavefront-guided LASIK, a sophisticated technique that is individualized to that eye. It is used in Lasik Treatment in Navi Mumbai.
Pentacam (Oculyzer by Alcon) – This is based on Scheimpflug camera wherein the corneal power is measured at multiple points. These measurements are based on elevation from a reference sphere – a form of elevation-based topography. This helps in assessing the corneal cylinder (astigmatism) and different locations. Unsafe cases like eyes with keratoconus are easily picked up with this test. The Pentacam can also accurately measure thickness of the cornea at various locations, and can determine whether the cornea can safely withstand the laser procedure. It is used in Lasik Treatment in Navi Mumbai.
What is PRK
PRK is a similar procedure to LASIK. However, in this surgery, the laser is applied directly to the cornea without creating a flap. This procedure is often the choice of surgery in eyes with thinner corneal profiles.
LASIK and PRK are once-in-a-lifetime procedures, which can provide crystal clear vision. Truly a life-changing experience after Lasik Treatment in Navi Mumbai !

What if LASIK or PRK is not suitable for me? Can’t I get rid of my glasses?
For the patients whose eyes aren’t suitable for the corneal procedures (LASIK, PRK) we provide other options, which are equally safe and effective. These include like ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) or IPCL or Refractive Lens Exchange.
Alternatives to Lasik Treatment in Navi Mumbai.
These procedures are an option in patients who are unsuitable for corneal procedures (LASIK, PRK) due to a thin corneal profile or a very high refractive error.
ICL & IPCL can be compared to contact lenses which are worn over the eye. But unlike contact lenses, which require to be worn and removed every day, the ICL and IPCL lenses are surgically implanted directly into the eye. This is a once-in-a-lifetime procedure.
ICL and IPCL can correct very high refractive errors, even those above the reach of Lasik Treatment in Navi Mumbai. The surgery is very safe, and in experienced hands, gives excellent results. Unlike other surgeries, it is also completely reversible.
At Laxmi, we take special care in selecting and customizing the correct lens size using Scheimpflug technology, optical biometry which help to measure the horizontal size of the eye and the various other complex measurements required for customizing the size of the lens. Surgery is done in our state-of-the-art operation theatre complex. Recovery time is very short, and patients can enjoy eagle eye vision – something they may never have experienced before!
- Once the lens is inside my eye, Will it hurt? Will it be seen from the outside?
The ICL or the IPCL are designed to perfectly match the shape of your eye. The lens sits comfortably behind your iris tissue and on top of your natural lens without causing any discomfort. It is not visible to naked eye and can only be seen through a ophthalmic microscope.
- What are the precautions I have to undertake after the implantation?
After the surgical procedure routine eye drops will be started. You will need to visit the consultant on day 2, day 7 and then 1 month after the surgery. These visits are important to check the location and the position of the lens inside the eye and to measure the intraocular pressure.
Refractive Lens Exchange (ReLEx) is the name given to the surgery wherein the natural lens of the eye is exchanged with an artificial lens (IOL). Normally this is done when the natural lens becomes cloudy, a condition called cataract. However, when this surgery is done before the development of cataract, in order to remove glass power, it is called ReLEx.
Just as cataract surgery is one of the safest surgeries performed around the world, so is ReLEx. This surgery is especially suitable for patients in the presbyopic age group with very high glass power who cannot undergo LASIK or other procedures. When this kind of lens exchange is done in patients in the presbyopic age (>40yrs) it is referred to as PreLex.
The natural lens is substituted with an artificial intraocular lens (IOLs) like multifocal or trifocal lenses whose optical properties provide the patient with good distance, intermediate and near vision. This reduces the dependency on glasses for everyday work. Occasionally a small power may be required in some patients for fine work, both for distance and near. Truly a life-changing experience after Lasik Treatment in Navi Mumbai !
- Will I need my glasses after surgery?
ReLEx or PreLEx is a surgery done in patients who are absolutely dependent on glasses for all their daily activities and hence want to get rid of them. Once the natural lens is substituted with IOLs like multifocal and trifocal lenses which give excellent vision, the dependency on glasses is greatly. This means that the patient will get good quality vision for both near and distance without wearing glasses. Glasses may be occasionally needed, based on each patient’s individual perception.
- At what age can I get this surgery?
You can have this surgery right from the age of 20 years to before the cataract actually develops. It is a procedure which replaces your natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens whose power is calculated according an individual’s eye. It is a customized approach which takes into account the personality of the individual, the nature of his or her profession, and hobbies such as reading, watching television, etc. to give maximum comfort after surgery.
